Chavez Jr. hires Joe Goossen as trainer

Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., has just teamed up with Joe Goossen to prepare for his next bout - in an interesting clash of personalities.

In an interesting move, Chavez Jr. has just worked out a deal to hire Joe Goossen as his head trainer, as is being reported by The Boxing Voice (via BoxingScene.com).

"It is a fact I will be training Chavez Jr. and we just came to an agreement last night. I'm very anxious and very excited to work with him. I've often stated before in a few interviews when people asked me - ‘Who would you like to train out there?' - and I said it several times in the past few years that if I had to pick he was at the top of my list," Goossen told BoxingScene.com.

"He's the type of fighter where I think our styles could definitely mesh."

Now this is an interesting move because there are two distinct sides to this coin. On one side, stylistically, there should be a match between Chavez, Jr. and Goossen. But Goossen is also known to adapt a no-nonsense, workman-like approach to training, whereas Chavez Jr. directly juxtaposes this method with his lackadaisical, train when I feel like it, attitude. I can't imagine Goossen will react well when Chavez ultimately blows off a training session to eat cornflakes in his pink speedos.

Ultimately, this might prove to be a very volatile relationship that could either pay big dividends or just blow up altogether. Truthfully speaking, I can't see their personalities clicking all that well and expect this relationship to sour within a fight a two.
