Bio Data

As an amateur Ray Robinson was ranked as one of the top 3 Jr. Welterweights in the world.  Robinson had an exceptional amateur record which included over 50 wins in just a short period of time. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Ray moved to continue his education in Marquette Michigan. With a government funded scholarship to the University of Michigan- Marquette, Ray continued his training for the U.S. boxing team for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China, while attending the university.

Rather than continue to pursue his career in the amateur ranks, Robinson decided to turn pro.  Upon turning pro, Robinson seemingly had every major promoter out lookng to sign the young 20 year old phenom.  Robinson met with Joe DeGuardia CEO of Star Boxing and for Robinson the search for his promoter ended there.  "I felt very comfortable and happy with DeGuardia and Star Boxing.  I knew if I was going to accomplish what I wanted to accomplish in the professional ranks that DeGuarida would be the promoter to take me," said Robinson.

Robinson turned pro on December 8th, 2006, winning a four round unanimous decision over Nigel McKnight.

In a story written by James Slater, Slater listed Robinson as one of the top prospects in 2008.  Fast hands, amazing footwork, and knockout power, Robinson seems to have all the right tools to take him to the top of the Welterweight Division.

On September 5th, 2008 "The New" Ray Robinson improved his record to 9-0, 3KO with a impressive but tough fight against Eberto Medina (5-4, 1KO).  Medina came to fight and would not quit but Robinson seemed to just be on a different level.  Robinson showed tremendous hand speed and good defensive skills as he would land three and four punch combinations and then move away as his opponent tried to counter.  Robinson dropped Medina with a straight left hand just as the bell sounded to end the fight.  Medina got up but looked to be in bad shape.  Robinson showed tremendous poise and looked very impressive in his first scheduled six rounder.

On February 13th, 2009, Robinson took on previously undefeated Darnell Jiles (8-0-1, 3KO) in Robinson's first live co-feature, shown on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights"

The first round was a feeling out round with Robinson pressing the action looking to messure the shorter Jiles. From the first round on it was all Robinson though as he displayed great hand speed and ring generalship landing crisp combinations to both the head of body of Jiles. With Robinson seemingly landing at will Jiles did not answer the bell to sound round four, earning Robinson an impressive third round TKO.

On July 16th, 2009 Robinson improved to a perfect (11-0, 4KO) with a dominate six-round decision over Harrison Cuello (18- 11-3, 14KO).

Robinson simply had way too much fire power for the veteran Cuello as he continuously peppered him with shots from the outside. Cuello was game, but Robinson was just too quick and too powerful, as he dished out more and more punishment as the fight progressed.

A picture perfect left hand opened a nasty cut over Cuello's eye just as the final bell sounded, wrapping up a near perfect performance for Robinson.

Robinson who is obviously a huge fan of the original Ray Robinson, also idolizes Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali.  For how young a man he is it does not show in the media or in the ring.  A well spoken gentleman, and a technician in the ring, Robinson is clearly another young Star on the Star Boxing team’s roster, and certaintly one to look out for in the next few years.
