MACAO OF BUST! CHRIS ALGIERI INT’L MEDIA CONFERENCE CALL
November 11, 2014CHRIS ALGIERI CONFERENCE CALL TRANSCRIPT
November 13, 2014Popular Jr. Welterweight Raymond Serrano, 18-2 9 KO’s, Philadelphia, PA, will return to the ring thisFriday, November 14that the Harrah’s Philadelphia Casino in Chester, PA after a nearly 2 year layoff. Serrano will be facing battle tested Wilfredo Acuna, 15-15 12 KO’s, Managua, Nicaragua, in a featured 6 round bout.
Promoted by Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Serrano started off his career in blazing style winning his first 18 fights. Serrano stepped up in class taking on fellow undefeated prospect Karim Mayfield May 18th, 2012, which was telecast on ESPN’s “Friday Night Fights” series, and was stopped after 5 hard fought rounds suffering his first defeat. Serrano returned the following January on ShoBox and took on rated fighter Emanuel Taylor but, after a good start fell prey to Taylor’s punching power as Raymond was stopped in the 6th round suffering his 2nd consecutive TKO loss.
Serrano decided to take some time off and built a new team around him including a new manager, Mark Cipparone, who also manages world rated Jr. Lightweight Tevin Farmer and Heavyweight prospect Joey Dawejko, and trainer Raul Rivas. Serrano feels he has a stable team behind him and feels rejuvenated and is ready to establish himself as a Jr. Welterweight contender once again.
The first step is Friday as he has chosen a tough fighter to comeback against. Wilfredo Acuna has recently battled the likes of undefeated fighters Cletus Seldin, Dusty Harrison, and current WBO Jr. Welterweight champion Chris Algieri, and has shown his competitive spirit in all those fights. This should be a good test for Serrano coming back from his layoff.
Star Boxing chief Joe DeGuardia had this to say about Serrano’s comeback “I am happy that Raymond has decided to resume his career. He has shown in the past that he has the ability to become a world champion and unfortunate circumstances derailed him from his dream. I always felt he needed proper people around him and I hear good things about his new manager and trainer so I’m really looking forward to this fight and his return”.
For ticket information on the fight you can contact Harrah’s Philadelphia at 484 490-1800 or Star Boxing, 718 823-2000.
