Promoter Joe
DeGuardia’s “Paradise Punch-Out” Star Boxing event at the
Bermuda Athletic Association Grounds in Bermuda on Saturday
night was a tremendous success. The fights, which were the
island’s lead story in the newspapers, TV and on the radio,
were enjoyed by a sell-out, standing-room-only crowd that
loudly voiced its appreciation.
In the main event,
Star Boxing heavyweight prospect David Defiagbon was very
impressive in winning the vacant WBA FedeCentro Heavyweight
Championship via TKO 5 over always-tough Ron Guerrero.
Defiagbon's piston-like jab was the difference in handling the
dangerous Guerrero. The polished-looking new champion said
that his dramatically increased activity rate (under new
promoter DeGuardia) has renewed his vigor for battle. After a
tune-up fight in late June, Defiagbon is scheduled for
high-profile Friday Night Fights appearance on July 23 vs.
long-time contender Oleg Maskaev. He is now 21-0 (12).
