(BRONX,
NY) January 10, 2006 - Joe DeGuardia’s Star Boxing, Inc.
announced today that it has signed Light Heavyweight
Elvir “Kosovo Kid” Muriqi to a promotional contract.
Muriqi, who is originally from Kosovo,
fights out of the Bronx, NY, and has compiled a record
of 31-3 including 20 KO’s as a professional. He is a
former 1998 Golden Gloves Champion in the 178-lb weight
class. Interestingly, DeGuardia won the New York Golden
Gloves 147-lb championship exactly 10 years before
Muriqi.
Upon his signing, Muriqi said, “I’m glad
to be reunited with my first professional promoter. I
feel good about my future because Joe believes in me and
I can talk to him directly.”
DeGuardia is happy about reaching a deal
with Muriqi who he originally promoted back in 1998 when
he turned professional. He feels that there are many
interesting fights that can be made in the Light
Heavyweight division. “Muriqi is a tough, young fighter
with plenty of upside, and, at 26 years old, he has lots
of potential. I’m looking forward to working with him
again.”
Muriqi represents the third major signing
by DeGuardia's Star Boxing in the past three weeks. He
recently inked deals with former world champions Montell
“Ice” Griffin (Light Heavyweight) and Derrick "Smoke"
Gainer (Featherweight).
