No company can be successful without strong management, good business experience and savvy judgment. Star Boxing founder, Joe DeGuardia, is no stranger to the ring, in or out. As the son of a professional prizefighter, he first donned the gloves at the ripe age of two. DeGuardia went on to successfully fight for and win a 1988 New York Golden Gloves Championship.
Ten years ago, when the torch was passed from father to the son, Joe took over the Morris Park Boxing Club. He grew up there and has made it one of the busiest boxing gyms in New York. Today, he exclusively promotes numerous boxers and boxing events, and has co-promoted with all the other major promoters. Under Joe's guidance, Star has brought back the atmosphere of the famed "Golden Age" of boxing in New York.
An accomplished attorney and past Bronx Assistant District Attorney, he is no stranger to success or challenge. In or out of the ring, prosecuting or defending cases, Joe DeGuardia drives the vision and direction that is Star Boxing.
Star Boxing has been in operation since 1992.
Currently, Star is the only regularly televised metropolitan New York sports organization doing their own staging and televising. In the Northeast region. Star promote and televise more first-class boxing shows in metro New York than all other area promoters combined.
Star's Metro Series is the most consistently televised boxing series in the Northeast, offering two hard-hitting hours of grueling battle and punishment, delivered by a range of fighters consisting of wily featherweights, all the way to thundering heavyweights. Star Boxing's exciting venues range from Yonkers Raceway to Connecticut's Foxwood's Casino to Manhattan’s famous Roseland Ballroom.
Star's monthly Yonkers Raceway events have become major events on local sports calendars and are being televised, currently, in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida. It is Star Boxing's policy to give young fighters the opportunity to advance toward their ultimate goals. If the history of New York boxing holds true, there's no doubt that those who come to see them will be able to say they "saw them when."
