|
|
Atlantic City, NJ - May 12, 2008 In front of a sold out Bally's Atlantic City crowd presented by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing, "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis (19-2-2 9KO) retained his USBA JR. Left: "Mighty" Mike Arnaoutis
The fight was high energy all the way and had the enthusiastic and vibrant Greek crowd on their feet throughout much of the contest cheering on the popular Arnaoutis. Tyner came out strong in rounds one and two, often backing Arnaoutis up while landing heavy rights and lefts. Arnaoutis picked up the pace in the third round and kept the fight in the center of the ring while landing crisp jabs and hard body shots. Both men traded freely as the bell sounded ending the round.
The fourth and fifth saw Arnaoutis continue to fight behind his jab often landing three and four punch combinations. Tyner picked up his pace at the end of the fourth landing a flush left-right combination to the face of Arnaoutis. Tyner was also playing to the crowd often mugging and taunting Arnaoutis. The final thirty seconds of round five saw each man have their moments landing hard, clean shots.
Tyner came out strong in round six but Arnaoutis soon gained control behind the jab and the fast pace of the fight was starting to show on Tyner. Round seven was a huge round for Arnaoutis who had Tyner in deep trouble near the end of the round but somehow Tyner managed to survive and fought back bravely as the bell sounded.

GREAT FIGHT QUOTES ARNAOUTIS-TYNER VARGAS-BRUNELLI
|
|
Bronx, NY - May 06, 2008 Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing presents an exciting evening of boxing this Friday night from Bally's Atlantic City, as "Mighty Mike" Arnaoutis (18-2-2 9KO) defends his USBA Jr. Welterweight title against undefeated Lanardo Tyner (19-0 11KO) in a 12 round bout.
The semi-final 8 rounder will feature 2004 Olympic Team captain Devin Vargas (15-0 6KO) taking on tough Philadelphian Dave Brunelli (8-3 3KO) in a Heavyweight fight. The bouts will be telecast live on ESPN2's "Friday Night Fights" series. Below are quotes from each of the four participants.
Left: "Mighty Mike" Arnaoutis
"Mighty Mike" Arnaoutis: "I have worked very hard for this fight. I had a very good camp, with excellent sparring and I'm ready for the fight. Tyner will know what its like to be in the big time when he steps into the ring with someone like me. Rest assured he will be going back to Houston with a loss on his record. Right now I have everything working the way I want, I have a great corner and this will be the year of "Mighty Mike". Lanardo Tyner is just a bump in the road for me". Lanardo Tyner: "I am so looking forward to Friday night and fighting on ESPN. This is my time. Arnaoutis had his shots and its time for him to move over. This is my coming out party. I had a great camp and I know this Friday night I will be the NEW USBA champion. I didn't take this fight for the money, I took it for the opportunity to put myself in line for a bigger fight. I want to fight guys like Ricky Hatton and Paulie Malignaggi. I'm old school, the fans love to watch me fight because I do not bullshit in the ring. I hope "Mighty Mike" is ready because I'm coming to knock him out and take home his belt".
Above: Devin Vargas
Devin Vargas: "I am thrilled to be fighting on national television. This fight will springboard my career and the viewing audience will see just what Devin Vargas is all about. I'm not taking my opponent lightly, I know he come from a tradition rich area of fighters and I heard he is a very tough guy who brings it. I look forward to this opportunity and can't wait to get into the ring on ESPN Friday evening.
Dave Brunelli: "I know I'm coming into this fight as an underdog but that is the way we like it. I know my opponent is more experienced but I come from the fighting city of Philadelphia, PA and I'll have all my fans there cheering me on to victory. I'm 100% confident and I am really thrilled to be fighting on "Friday Night Fights".

VARGAS-BRUNELLI ADDED TO MAY 9 ESPN2 FIGHTS
|
|
Bronx, NY - Apr 30, 2008 - 2004 U.S. Olympic team captain Devin Vargas (15-0 6 KO) will battle Philadelphia tough guy Dave Brunelli (8- 3 3 KO) in an 8 round Heavyweight bout, May 9th, 2008, taking place at Bally's Atlantic City and to be telecast live on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
This will mark the television debut of Vargas who looks to place himself in the mix of young American Heavyweight prospects. Vargas had a storied amateur career culminating with a win over fellow undefeated prospect Chazz Witherspoon, which gave Vargas the Olympic team spot in 2004. Devin brings a crowd pleasing style into the ring with him and is very sound technically. He will face a stern test when he steps into the ring with Philadelphian brawler Dave Brunelli.
Brunelli does not have the amateur background of Vargas but has learned his trade the hard way, in the tough gyms of Philadelphia. Brunelli has become a fan favorite in the Philly area because of his brawling style and willingness to do what it takes to win. Brunelli is very excited about this opportunity and plans to make the most of it. Whatever happens, you can be assured that this will be an all action affair.
Left: Devin Vargas
Star Boxing head Joe DeGuardia had this to say about the match, "I am very excited that the public will finally get a chance to see Devin Vargas in action. Devin is a good looking, young prospect and I expect big things out of him."

Tsurkan Scores Career Best Victory
|
|
Above: Andrey Tsurkan vs. Jesse Feliciano
Bronx, NY - Apr 26, 2008 Ukranian born and Bronx resident Andrey Tsurkan (26-3 17KO) scored the biggest win of his career Friday night as he outgunned fellow tough guy Jesse Feliciano (15-7-3 9KO), scoring a TKO at 1:17 in the eighth round of a scheduled ten round Jr. Middleweight contest, at The Utopia Paradise Theatre in The Bronx, NY. The fight was televised live on ESPN2's Friday Night Fights.
The fight was as advertised, with both guys locking horns right from the opening bell. Both styles were mirror images of each other as the fighters stood at close quarters trading freely. Tsurkan landed a picture perfect right hand late in the round which dropped Feliciano for a short count and then followed up with crisp combinations which had Feliciano on rubber legs as the bell sounded ending the round. Feliciano came out strong in round two as the fighters once again engaged each other, both landing big shots. The fight went back and forth but it was clear that Tsurkan's punches were cleaner and crisper but Feliciano would always try and answer. As the fight entered the eighth round, it seemed Tsurkan had built a clear lead. Midway through the round, with Feliciano refusing to take a step backwards and Tsurkan landing heavy and damaging blows, referee Benji Esteves called a halt to the fight as Feliciano was taking a lot of punishment due to Tsurkan's relentless assault. Everyone applauded Esteves' decision in stopping the fight, as Tsurkan was certainly inflicting damage on the game Feliciano, who has proven time and time again what a real warrior he is. This was a thrilling crowd pleasing brawl which had the fans in attendance on their feet throughout.
